Mikus, Sándor (1903–1982)

Sculptor. Mikus created several important public statues after 1945. He taught at the College of Fine Art in 1949–76. Among his creations was the vast statue of › Stalin unveiled in December 1951 for the Soviet leader’s birthday. This was toppled on the evening of October 23, 1956, as a symbol of Stalinist dictatorship.
